Filizim, the only Turkish yacht which participated in the ARC 2011 was gone missing on the way to St.Thomas Island from where she had to be shipped back to Turkey by vessel. This mysterious event and anxious suspense ended up after 4 days when she was finally found adrift in the Caribbean Sea.

The X-55 Filizim was launched 4 months ago from Haderslev, but what she experienced since then is worth a lifetime.

December News Letter had already given notes about ARC 2011 and Filizim’s logbook skippered by her owner, Mustafa Miharbi. Filizim had crossed the Atlantic in less than 14 days and was 3rd in the racing Division A.

"Danish Lady", the Xp 44 of X-Yachts Italy is taking part in the Winter Championship in the beautiful Tigullio Gulf in the North East of Italy.

About 70 yachts are registered in the classes ORC, IRC and Open Class.
After six races, Danish Lady is leading the overall ORC and IRC Classes, showing a fantastic speed in all wind and sea conditions.

The Italian media are reporting detailed information about the races, and Italian sailors show high interest in following, whether the Danish Lady will confirm here excellent performance during the last three days of races.
The yacht is very well equipped with carbon mast and carbon rigging, and no changes were made to the original sail plan to optimize the yacht's rating either in ORC or IRC.

The X-65, "Karuba 5" owned by the family Fizulic has won IRC, the Transatlantic Maxi Yacht Cup with a margin of more than six hours.

The Superyacht Regatta was organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda with the International Maxi Association (IMA) and in collaboration with the Real Club Nautico de Tenerife. The regatta was open to monohull maxi yachts with an overall length of more than 18 metres. The fleet set off from the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, and have been navigating for approximately two weeks, covering approximately 2.600 nautical miles of the North Atlantic Ocean.

The finish line was set off Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands where a warm welcome was waiting for all participants at the new Caribbean base of the YCCS in the island’s North Sound.

Excerpt from the Sails test.
Text by Anthony Twibill

"The latest Xp 44, with the “p” signifying performance, is the first of an eXceptional new Xp range, leaping clear of previous X designs with sharp, contemporary lines drawn for offshore speed.

The Danes have long been seafarers, sailing far from the their small homeland in the cold waters of the North Sea.

These maritime traditions have forged great skills in yacht building over the years, and in today’s modern world, X-Yachts of Denmark are highly regarded for the performance, comfort and quality of their recreational sailing yachts."

Two X-55's participated in this year's ARC 2011.

One of them the Turkish "Filizim" owned by Mustafa Miharbi, finished the race on 4th December as number 4 in all racing divisions and as number 3 in Racing A division!

The other X-55 "Gunvør XL" owned by Karsten Witt, came in as number 1 in Class A - and was number 2 in the whole cruising division!

"Now let's go and see what a real sailing yacht is about!" Quote from two visitors talking to each other on the pontoon...

As the Shop & Miles Boat Show, one of the two annual exhibitions held in Istanbul, comes to a close; everyone agrees that X-Yachts' noticeable participation in this major sailing event has indeed achieved a great success.

There is no doubt that the dynamic new dealer's perserverant endeavours to promote the brand paid off when high numbers of visitors literally queued up to admire and scrutinize the X-Yachts exhibited at the most popular pontoon of the show.

The visitors could finally touch these legendary boats of which they always heard - but only seen from far.

The fact that the two yachts in exhibition, the glamorous Xc 45 "Dutchess" and the impressing carbon-rigged X-43 "Maestro", are officially the very first X-Yachts to be exhibited at a boat show in Turkey since the brand set its foot in the Turkish market approximately two decades ago, emphasizes the importance of this particular show for X-Yachts as well as for the Turkish distributor.

This important breakthrough heralds a new era for X-Yachts in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea region. The tangible admiration in X-Yachts from the increasingly more experienced and well informed Turkish sailing community is an evidence of market maturity for a demand for higher quality, performance and design.

Our Turkish distributor, E-Trend Yachting, happy to have raised the X-Yachts flag - literally as well as metaphorically at the show - is already busy negotiating contracts with new prospects who are enthusiastic to expand the exclusive X-Spirit in Turkey.

The Middle Sea Race took place from 22 - 29 October - organised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club.

After a week of thrilling competition, the official prize-giving took place in the Malta’s capital city of Valletta. Close to 1,000 competitors, guests, race officials, and media showed up in force - more than 70 participating yachts.

The Rolex Middle Sea Race course is 606 nautical miles long and is sailed anti-clockwise. Starting from Grand Harbour, boats will sail through the South Comino Channel, keeping Malta to starboard, to the finish line in Marsamxett Harbour. The islands of Ustica, Linosa and Lampione are not marks of the course.

The Course Record, established by "Rambler" in 2007, is 1 day, 23 hours, 55 minutes and 3 seconds.

X-Yachts had the largest fleet of the race with 7 yachts participating - the new Xp 44, a couple of X-55's, two X-65's, an X-40 and an X-362.

The new Xp 44 Vikesha II, owned by Oleg Evdokimenko had Timmy Camilleri and X-Yachts Jochem Visser on board. The boat immediately proved what type of performance it is capable of, and by the second checkpoint , the Messina Straits, Vikesha II was first overall on corrected time and in real time was up with the big boats including the mini-maxi Allegre and the Swan 80, Berenice.

From this point on, luck was not really on the side of the Xp 44 crew "as we stopped with no wind on two occasions, which allowed the small boats to sail right up to us.
Despite this, the Xp 44 managed to get ahead each time and on the final checkpoint, just 10 miles from the finish line was well placed to easily win her class and very probably the overall prize. Unfortunately again the wind on this final stretch died completely as it changed direction and Vikesha II lost 3 hours against the following fleet of Class 4 boats which eventually went on to win the race.

Although disappointed, we were very happy with the way the boat performed and in fact the Xp 44 attracted a lot of attention from all the involved in the race." (Quoted: Timmy Camilleri)

Vikesha II placed 3rd in Class 3 in the IRC division.

X-Yachts’ hotly anticipated 4th generation of performance cruisers, would always push new boundaries in all aspects of technology, performance and style. It was essential that this generation would become a new trendsetter, just like the previous generations who were always one step ahead of the game:

- The first generation was launched in 1984 with the X-402, introducing large diameter wheel steering, semi elliptical lead fin keel, rod rigging. The racing version captured the One Ton Worlds in 1986.

- The second generation came in 1990, with the X-412, which introduced the bulb keel, and the IMS inspired hull shape, winning the European IMS Championship for Cruiser/Racers.

- The third generation came in 2002, when the X-43 was introduced, with refined IMS and IRC hull shape, high stability and modest displacement, and pioneering deck design details such as under deck main sheet system.

This time round, X-Yachts decided once again to push the targets of production yachts further; implementing new production and engineering techniques; utilizing cutting edge design. The idea is to create yachts that stand proud in the racer cruiser market.

The Xcruising range was designed for sailors who want to cover sea miles in style and comfort, yet retaining the same design and build qualities that X-Yachts' performance designs are renowned for.

The first in the family, the Xc 45, was awarded at the "European Yacht of the Year" in 2009, the year of its launch.
It was soon joined by the Xc 42, and in 2010 the range was doubled by the introduction of the Xc 50 and Xc 38.

The Xc 38 was awarded the European Yacht of the Year 2011 in January this year.

Every model in the Xc range offers the same enjoyable sailing experience that X-Yachts owners are familiar with, but with deeper, more "V"shaped hulls that give greater interior volume and high stability, with only a marginal reduction in light airs performance.

Xcruising features

•Medium/heavy displacement and large keel weights for high stability
•Moderate draft for remote anchorages (extra-low draft available)
•Folding transom to form swim platform (motorised on larger models)
•Excellent cockpit protection, with options including windscreen, sprayhood and bimini
•Teak as standard for cockpit, side decks, coach roof, bulwark and swim platform
•Airy and spacious interior with choice of layouts and trim options
•Generous diesel engine mounted in well insulated compartment

Please, contact your local dealer for a good offer.

Are you considering which boat shows to visit in the months August to December?

The ORC inshore German Championship was held in Flensburg from 10-17 September.

In the ORC 1 group, the Xp 44 - helmed by Ralf Lässig - won a 3rd place - and thus once more proved the performance quality of the first launch of the Xp model in the range.

The Southampton Boat Show took place from 16-25 September.

During the 11 days of boat show, there were more than 2000 visitors and interested customers.

From the Xperformance range, the newly launched Xp 38 was on show and was met with enthusiasm and great interest.

In addition to the Xp 38, X-Yachts presented its smallest Xperformance yacht, the X-34 - and the Xc 38, 42 and 45 from the cruising range.

The number of visitors to the X-Yachts stand proofed that the UK market is more buoyant than in previous years.

There were hundreds of exhibitors at this year's boat show with a wide range of boats and marine related products to see, try and choose from.

From 6-11 September, the Xp 44 and the Xp 38 had their international world premiere at the Hiswa in water boat show in IJmuiden.

Despite heavy wind conditions (maximum 10 Bft in the marina), a large number of visitors came to the stand of X-Yachts Holland to have a look at the newest models.

The new Xp range was well received, with the exterior making people stop walking and admire the lines of these exciting new boats.

Besides the new Xp's, the awarded Xc 45 and Xc 38 from the Xcruising range were also displayed, and these boats still appeal to those sailors that are looking for a boat that will allow them to stay on board for longer periods and sail large distances comfortably.

On Monday 22nd August, at 9am, Xp 38 hull #1 took to the water at the X-Yachts marina at the head of the Haderslev Fjord.

The Xp 38 was unveiled in October last year, with a planned “public-launch” at X-Yachts’ annual “In- house” floating boat show, which takes place during the last weekend in August.

The Xp 38 is the second member of X-Yachts’ 4th generation Performance-Cruiser range.

The first, the Xp 44, was launched earlier this year in April, and has been praised by the international yachting press, as well as being nominated for European Yacht of the Year. Since the first Xp 44 hit the water, a total of 10 further boats have been launched, and the first race results and test results can be studied at our homepage.

From 17 August, 28 one design boats from 8 different Nations started their competition on the bay of Århus next to Marselisborg Harbour.

The crews of 8 were fighting for the World Champion-ship 2011.

Before racing, there are a number of hardships to go through for the crews: sails must be measured, some boats will be weighed and the crews as well.

The total weight of the 8 sailors on board can only be 640 kilos, so this can be a nervous time for some crews and some boats even choose to reduce their crew to 7 persons to avoid being overweight.

See the total results of the X-35 VM.

The Xp 44 "Xenia" from Bremerhaven with helmsman Ralf Lässig, won the German Championship in Class 1 with 2 victories.

With medium wind speeds, "Xenia" turned out to be an excellent allround boat. When the crew stood on the podium, the boat was only two weeks old.

The crew are now preparing for the IDM inshore race in IDM Seesegeln Inshore 2011 in Glücksburg from 7 - 11th September. We wish them all the best.

The traditional Faerdern Cup 2011 was sailed in Norway from 17. – 19. June 2011.

This years' race was governed by the Norwegian rating system LYS. The 85 nautical mile race started as usual in Oslo, continued to the lighthouse of Faerder, and then back to Horten. We had a north wind (tail wind) from the start with varying wind-force all the way to Faerder, so unfortunately we did not get the chance to try the incredible upwind qualities of the Xp 44 against the competitors. When we arrived in Faerder, the wind turned, and we had a tail wind again back to Horten.

We sailed in class LYS Racing over 1.44 with 32 boats, and the competing boats where from 40 feet and upwards to the larger boats such as TP52. Unfortunately, we had to realize that the larger boats sailed faster than us, and we were left behind competing with X-41, Landmark 43 and Farr 40. On paper, Landmark 43 and Farr 40 are supposed to sail faster than us, but we were pleased to discover that we left them behind!

On the way to Faerder, we had reasonably stable wind conditions. The results show that at rounding the lighthouse of Faerder, we took the lead on corrected time. We were a little unfortunate on the way back from Faerder to Horten because the wind died after the larger boats had crossed the finishing line. This resulted in 5th place overall which we were satisfied with because of the current wind conditions.

The Xp 44 showed high speed potential, and the sailing qualities were outstanding. We discovered this after almost 1000 boats had crossed the finishing-line, and the big topic among all the sailors in Horten was how well the boat had sailed!

At the fantastic AUDI X-Yachts Finland Cup held in Hanko 28 - 30 July, a fleet of 35 yachts were participating in the beautiful and sunny surroundings of Hanko.

X-Yachts Finland and NJK Yacht Club in the centre of Helsinki are in the process of applying for permission to reorganize the World Championships for the X-41 class in Helsinki in August 2012. The venue will be held directly after the ORCi World Championship that will be held in Helsinki 2 - 9 August.

NJK are celebrating their 150 Year Anniversary this year.

They have just held the Worlds for the 6m Class and also organized the Open Europeans for all Olympic Classes in Helsinki in July.
More information will follow closer to the time.

The 31st Copa del Rey took place from the 16th till the 21st of July 2012.

The prize giving ceremony was closed by the King and Queen and Prince of Spain. It took place in the magnificent surroundings of the Cathedral in Palma.

Copa Del Rey included the X-35 class races where the top 3 first places were won by Mirko Bargolini in first place, Ingo Dietrich in second place and Javier Banderas in third place.

After 10 months of hard work and planning, we delivered the new Xc 45 no 55 "Skyedancer" to Robert and Margaret Youngjohns in Roche Harbor, Washington on June 25th 2011.

We had a great delivery sail from Vancouver to Roche Harbor with a brief stop into Pt. Roberts to clear customs and take on fuel.

The boat looks fantastic!!

All systems functioned well, the sails looked great and the Lafabrica canvas work was the envy of the dock.

Thank you to all involved in this fun project. Your support is greatly appreciated.
This was truly a team effort and I know Robert and Margaret are very pleased with the boat and its performance.

We delivered on schedule and with a week to spare for the July 4th holiday weekend.

The European Yacht of the Year Award will be presented for the 9th time in January 2012. The contributing partner magazines have just completed the first pre-selection:

The Xp 44 is among the finalists in the category "Performance Cruiser".

The boat has been ranked as one of the most interesting and promising newcomers of its class.

Total winner of the IDM - Offshore, Race 4 was the Xp 44! Kieler Woche took place from 18 - 26 June.

The racing event was held 2 years ago for the first time - and held by the Danish club, Kerteminde Sejlklub.

There were 44 participating boats and naturally quite a few X-Yachts among.

Xp 44, Xenia, wins all of its races during Nordsee Woche on Helgoland against stiff competition from Marten 49, J/V 42 Racer, Farr 45, GS40 and J125.

Was held in Sanremo - St.Tropez - Genova in the days 16-25 June.

On the first race of the Rolex Cup Danish Lady finished second of 73 boats in IRC A.

Just few seconds behind Leonardo Ferragano's Swan 42, beating 5 Swan 45 and a stack of top level oponents.

The forecast for the weekend's racing seemed to prove correct if not a little too modest for Sunday’s conditions. With a strong Force 6 from the west forecasted it was going to be a survival of the fittest out on the race course. There were 8 X-Yachts entered in the regatta ranging from the latest Xp 44 to the successful X-342.

X-Yachts Xp 44 was placed into IRC Class 1 for the regatta, the first regatta for the team and the boat all eyes would be on with regards to her performance up against some stiff competition. Due to the adverse weather conditions on Saturday, several entrants decided not to venture out into the wet and windy conditions, however racing got under way on time and the race committee set a conventional windward leeward course for all IRC Classes. IRC 1 got off to a clean start with Xs Moment, Xp 44 leading the way from the first mark and extending their lead to win by a comfortable four minutes on corrected time.

As soon as the X-Yachts crew finished its work with the fourth Xp 44, she left for Norway.

The Norwegian X-Yachts coordinator Esben Torget scheduled the trip home to Norway to 2 whole days.

After her arrival in Norway, "Too Bonita" is planned to participate in the "Faerderseilasen" - one of the most famous and largest sailing races in Scandinavia with approximately 900 participating boats.

When Esben arrives in Norway, the racing crew will be prepared for the preliminary exercises before the race.

The Notice of Race and Registration Form for the 30 Copa del Rey are now available.

The Regatta will take place from the 31 July to the 6 August 2011 and is one of the most prestigious annual sailing races in the Mediterranean Sea.

Apart from including serious IRC racing boats, Copa Del Rey is establishing class races for the two models in the Xracing range, the X-35 and the X-41.

Translated into English, Copa del Rey means Cup of the Kings.

The first Xc Range Yacht in Japan is the Xc 45.

The Japanese dealer, 135 East, exhibited the Xc 45 at the Floating Boat Show in Nishinomiya in the first weekend of June. Nishinomiya City is one of the main yachting centres of Japan located near Osaka and Kobe where we have a strong X-35 fleet.

The general idea of an X-Yachts in Japan has been a boat for racing sailors, because of its high performance and winning success stories. As well as in the rest of the world, the Japanese market has recognized that X-Yachts build high quality performance yachts.

The Japanese leading yachting magazine "Kazi", had their test sail of the Xc 45.

Test sailor and reporter Mr. Kazu Nishimura appreciated the high quality of every detail and the well thought-out package of short hand sailing. Even in the light breeze, the Xc 45 performed well and sailed lively. In other words, he found lots of quality of the Xc 45.

We believe that the Xc Range will attract many customers because of its cruising and performance qualities.

The Mediterranean Cup 2011 is open for registration!

The cup takes place in Scarlino from 29th August to 3rd September - where the X-35 National Championship as well as the X-41 World Championship is held.

Apart from that, you can register as Family Class, Sports Class B and C and last but not least, one of the new classes in X-Yachts, the Over 50" Invitational.

Wednesday till Friday, 18–21 May, the European Championships X-35 were held in front of Punta Ala, off the south coast of Follonica Bay, Tuscany.

The crew onboard HotelPlan Spirit of Nerina owned by Italians Fusco, Diamantini, Bargolini, Cantamessa and Ferrari with tactician Roberto Spata, wins the European Championship with 32 points : 0 point lead on Vladimiro Pegoraro’s Karma calling tactics Alberto Bolzan, second.

Alessandro and Franco Solerio's Lelagain with tactician Branco Brcin, reigning world champion since 2009, takes third position on the podium.

Overall, 10 races were held in four days with 18 yachts from 4 nations competing on 1.5-mile-long windward/leeward course.

The 151 Miglia is one of the most eagerly awaited events of the season. The offshore race takes competitors along a 151-mile route from Livorno around the Giraglia, then down to Elba, the Formiche di Grossetoand the island of Troia, before the finish-line at Punta Ala.

It certainly enhances the quality of our yachts and proves the sailing ability of X-Yachts owners!

Alessandro Pfanner's X55, Xenia gained the first place in the IRC category and Hamon Pierre's X46, Canapiglia the fourth.

Furthermore, Alessandro Pfanner was awarded the Challenge Trophy, as the winner of the most numerous category.

W Collection Sailing Cup Bosphorus (*) 2011 was held with 78 participants in Istanbul last month.

Not surprisingly, "AGGRESSIVO", an X-35 true to her name, reached victory ahead of fierce competition in IRC II. With Ms. Mihri Eres at helm, and sponsored by Turkish coffee giants "Kahve Dunyasi", "Aggressivo" has made it a habit of winning most of the major races held in Turkey.

Yet another X-Yachts, an X-302 named "X LARGE" took the first place in IRC V with its young team led by the owner Mr. Haluk Serbetcioglu (Note: This boat is currently listed under the "Pre Owned" section of X-Yachts website).

Although they take place in the unique picturesque setting in between the continents of Europe and Asia, races held in the Bosphorus are particularly renowned for their difficulty: Numerous local currents varying in power as well as direction combine with unpredictable winds and limited manoeuvering space, turning this geographical beauty into an unforgiving and exhausting race course which means only bliss for those who love racing.

The 2011 SLAM X-Yachts Solent Cup was well attended with 26 X-Yachts competing for the Overall Solent Cup.

There were X-Yachts ranging from the popular X-302 to the new Xp 44.

With over 250 competitors taking part, there was a fantastic atmosphere ashore as well as fierce competition on the race course.

The date and venue for the 2012 X-Yachts Solent Cup will be announced shortly. For further photos from the event please visit X-Yachts Facebook Page.

The Fremantle to Bali Yacht Race celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2011. I was invited to sail onboard the new X-55 Audeamus owned by Adrian Fini and Kim Ramen, who took delivery of their new boat in November 2010. Audeamus is Latin for “Let Us Dare”, an appropriate name given that this is Kim and Adrian’s first sailing yacht.

Some highlights that I’d like to share with you about our trip. I dare say that we were the only boat that competed in the IRC Racing division that did the following.

• Ran the air conditioning for 5 days to make life more comfortable for the off watch. There was such a temperature difference between the deck and down below, it was affectionately referred to as “The Ice Cave”

• Made enough fresh water for all of the crew to shower and shave if they wanted every second day. Our clothes were also washed regularly to make life more pleasant for all onboard.

• Ate gourmet meals for lunch and dinner every day prepared by a chef.
• Had happy hour in the cockpit around the table every evening before sunset. This was a casual affair with one glass of wine per crew member and some light refreshments. As we were racing, the wine was in bladders to save weight.
• Laughed most of the way to Bali and formed new and strong friendships that will last a lifetime.

The full story will be brought in X-Yachting Magazine 2012

X-Yachts Holland just delivered Xc 50 No 10 which was fully ‘wrapped’.

So instead of spraying it, the hull was wrapped to create a blue/grey metallic result making the boat even more of a head turner!

The owner will spend his first season sailing in Holland to familiarise himself with the boat and will then leave next year for the Mediterranean and perhaps even the Caribbean. X-Yachts Holland have been heavily involved in ensuring that the boat specification is perfect for cruising and open water sailing.

X-Yachts in Holland has a lot of experience in blue water long distance cruising.

From 26 to 29 May, the "Hanseboot Ancora Boat Show" took place.

More than 140 motor and sailboats were presented - making the Ancora Boat Show one of the largest floating boat shows in Germany.

For the second time, X-Yachts was present on this boat show with the two XCruising models, the Xc 50 and the Xc 38.

All in all, it was a well-visited boat show, where many interested sailors went onboard to gain a better understanding of the boat, its specification and pricing.

Next year's Ancora Boat show will take place from 31 May to 3 June.

Friday evening saw the weather break after the incredibly dry April and May we have experienced. Thunder and lightening rumbled around the Solent and “the heavens opened”. The competitors and event organisers were not going to let the weather get the better of them and then event kicked off with the B & G Crew Party and BBQ. Partygoers enjoyed pints of the new addition X-Yachts Bitter, supplied by Robinson Brewery. The complimentary barrel was drained at record speed!

X-Yachts competed in three classes; Open Sports Class A, Open Sports Class B and Family Class. The two sports classes raced a conventional windward leeward course, while the Family Class had two round the can races on Saturday and a Pursuit Race on the Sunday. The Pursuit Race was a new addition for the Family Class in 2011.

A short period after the sales of the first Xc 50 for Turkey, our new dealer has just put an order for a very special X-55 Gold Cup Edition. This will be the largest X-Yachts entering into the bubbling Turkish market so far. This X-55 will be delivered in Haderslev early September and will directly set sails from Denmark to the Canaries. She will then participate in the ARC 2011 for which she is currently being specifically prepared.

Her return home in Turkey was planned for spring 2012.

When customizing his 3rd X-Yachts, the happy owner of this X-55 had one single objective in mind;

"We will participate in the ARC 2011 proudly carrying X-Yachts brand and our flag in order to be the first yacht crossing the finishing line. Our aim is to be number 1 in all categories, and I know we will achieve this goal with our new X-55".

Easter week-end was the host of the two largest French regattas: Spi Quest France in la Trinité sur Mer in Brittany with 201 boats racing in IRC. And SNIM in Marseille which gathered 114 boats.

Spi Ouest was raced this year in light winds under an exceptional sunshine. X-Yachts were very present in the competitive IRC class with 10 boats out of 51; A31, JPK and J105 and 109 made the rest of the fleet.

Two X-Yachts reached the podium: Mary the X-34 of Mr Moriceau won the class, ahead of the X-332 Axiome belonging to Mr Ygout. Another X-34 Heolix of Mr Boulet finished at the 5th place.

With a great inversion of the usual weather pattern, the Semaine Internationale de Marseille was raced
under rain in heavy weather the first two days.

In IRC3 in a fleet of 22 boats, the Mr Lefevre's X-37 Arundo won leading far ahead a pack of A35's!

Andreas Varela, owner of the X-65 number 5, participated in the famous regatta RUTA DE LA SAL and went first over the finishing line!

However, the crew only got the 54th place from a total of 73 participating sailing yachts because of the rating of the X-65 compared to the other participating cruisers.

In 1989, ANAM (Associació De Navegants D'Altura Mediterrànis) launched the first edition sports Salt Route from the port of Port Ginesta Barcelona to the Balearic Islands. In this first race, only 36 boats started.

In 1990, participation doubled with 65 entries - and in 1991, the second version of the race, leaving from the Club Nautico Denia, was founded.

La Ruta de la Sal annually mobilizes more than 2000 sailors and a motley fleet of ships across the Mediterranean to commemorate the voyages of the last century in search of White Gold: The spice of life!

The first race weekend for ORC yachts and one design classes took place between 29th April and 1st May in Kiel, Germany.

The weather conditions were excellent with wind ranging from 4 to 28 knots under a cloud free sky. X-Yachts was well represented in the One Design Class with 8 X-79's, 9 X-99's, 7 X-35's as well as in the three ORC classes.

For both X-99 and X-35 class, the event was used to check the current form and to try new trim and sails which was reflected in competitors from Sweden and Denmark. Both classes will hold their worlds on the Baltic Sea this year. X-99 in Kiel and the X-35 class in Århus, Denmark - where a large international fleet is expected.

The ORC class won class 2 as well as class 3 and took third spot with an IMX 40 in ORC class 1.

Congratulations to the winner!

X-Yachts breaks all previous sales records!

Compared to 1st quarter 2010, the order intake was 30% higher in 2011 - and 18% above budget!

This is indeed a promising trend for the sailing business in general.

No doubt that the award-winning Xc range and the newly launched model of the Xp range, the Xp 44, is contributing to the increased interest of X-Yachts.

The X-Yachts dealer Robert Rodgers is joining his friend, Pieter de Zwart, in the Bermuda One-Two Yacht Race starting on 3rd of June. The participating boat will be Pieter de Zwart's X-442.

The first leg will be sailed singlehanded from Newport, Rhode Island to the finish line off St. George's, Bermuda. The second leg will be sailed doublehanded from St. George's to the finish line off Newport.

The Bermuda races have been taking place regularly since 1977 and are organized by the Goat Island Yacht Club, Ltd.

X-Yachts’ new Xp generation hit the water yesterday and was out sailing in the straits on her maiden voyage within hours of her elegant carbon mast being stepped for the first time.

“You should have seen our new baby from the support Rib”, writes Design Principal Niels Jeppesen, “She just looks absolutely right…. And she’s fast too”.

This represents the 4th generation of Performance Cruisers for X-Yachts – and Xp retains much of the DNA of its forebears but has evolved into a fast and progressive cruiser-racer that has as much to offer the modern, comfort-demanding family as it does a race crew.

The first 10 Xp 44’s are now in production, and the first deck was installed and fitted earlier last week. Since the last generation of performance X-Yachts models were introduced back in 2002, a large number of new ideas have been developed, refined and incorporated into this greatly anticipated new range of performance yachts.

The hull and hull liner are built utilizing race boat technology; the hull is constructed from vacuum infused epoxy sandwich, and all structural members of the keel structure are reinforced with carbon-fibre.

Above deck, the Xp 44 will look contemporary, yet elegant.

The halyards and mainsheet are completely recessed below deck. The mainsheet track and blocks are all rebated into the cockpit floor. The opening deck hatches and coachroof portlights are all flush-mounted, with both the anchor fittings and the furling forestay also recessed below the foredeck. The theme continues aft, with recessed washboards and cockpit table and under-floor storage for the liferaft.

Below deck, a whole new world of ideas has been explored.

The navigation and chart seat can both slide, which enables the owner to quickly switch between forward facing navigation at sea or, an enlarged sofa when slide aft. The interior is crafted in hand-polished G- teak, contrasting and complementing with the light high gloss composite units.

The symmetrical double aft cabins are spacious and can accommodate an additional freeboard hung pipe-berth, which is both comfortable whilst offshore and provides a large amount of extra storage space for personal belongings.

The first Xp 44 is expected to be launched shortly before Easter, and will be tested in Danish waters during the last two weeks of April.

The series production is already well underway and the first 9 - of the 23 pre-sold units - are all expected to be delivered worldwide to their new owners before the summer holidays in late July.

From 15th of April, all registered Gold Cup participants can fill in detailed information about their rating on www.x-yachts.com.

We look forward to receiving your registrations!

The first X-Yacht over 60 ft has been sold to Australia and is currently being built in Denmark and is expected to be finished during the summer.

The interested and eager customer intends to go to Denmark in June to check on its progress.

When launched in 2009, the concept of the X-Yachts flagship was described as:
“…She is the result of combining the conceptual ideas behind the X-55 and the IMX 70. The clean, uncluttered deck layout mirrors X-Yachts philosophy: simplicity and functionality, with a modern yet classic styling. Comfort in style combined with world class quality."

On Saturday 26 March the X-Yachts' team organised a tuning session with two X-34s in the Solent area. The weather conditions were perfect for boat tuning, with a steady 10 knots of breeze and flat seas, it resulted in us gaining some valuable rig and sail trim settings for the X-34s.

Initially both boats set out sailing upwind adjusting settings and running through various line ups to see how each boat performed. It was clear from the start that both boats were evenly matched, which allowed us to explore a range of variables to optimise the boats' performance. After practicing mark roundings and time and distance exercises, the two X-34s sailed back down wind.

The day was very productive for all involved and the information gathered will be used to finalise the extensive X-34 tuning guide which will be available shortly.
We would like to thank North Sails UK for their involvement and support and everyone else involved in making this a successful day.

With 2 months left before "Last Entry date", 54 X-Yachts have registered for the Gold Cup.

We still hope that the event will reach the maximum permitted number of 90 entries.

X-Yachts Gold Cup will consist of various classes to make sure that the "on water activities" will be enjoyable for the various levels of sport sailing interests.

The family class will only allow yachts which use two sails as a maximum, and the Sport Classes will be divided into two groups, depending on size.

A new group will be the "Over 50 ft Invitational" where each participant will be allocated to an individual start.

Finally, X-Yachts Gold Cup will also host the X-35 Scandinavian Cup as well as the X-41 European Championship.

The event is held in Flensburger Segelclub from 6 - 9 July 2011.

The X-Cup Hyères Series will be held on June 11-12th, 2011.

The first X-Cup Hyères series was held last year. Participants of last years X-Cup were not discouraged by the bad weather conditions and continued to come to race in Hyères. The event was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Organized in partnership with the International Yacht Club of Hyères, last years French X-Cup offered not only very competitive racing but also an enjoyable social event on Saturday night.

Limited last year to IRC rated yachts, many X-Yachts owners asked us to extend this event to less race- oriented crews.

This year the X-Cup Hyères Series, will include two categories:

* An IRC rated group, where boats will race primarily around the cans

* A "family" group in which a symmetrical spinnaker will be prohibited that will race offshore each day around the islands.

The bay of Hyères is the ideal sailing ground for such an event and the International Yacht Club of Hyeres is renowned for hosting key international events such as TP52 and Farr 40 circuits.

We are pleased to announce that there were more than 2000 visitors to the Open House event at the weekend. We had visitors from all over Europe but mainly Danish and German customers and clients.

The boat industry in general has been through a difficult period but X-Yachts have certainly got something to celebrate with February resulting in the highest order flow in 22 years, partly due to the high level of interest last weekend.

No doubt the Xcruising range has contributed to the success with the latest xcruising model Xc 38 winning the award in the luxury category.

Furthermore with the Xp range on its way and the new Xp 44 due to be launched at the beginning of April, there were naturally many buyers as well as potential buyers who wanted to know more about the progress of the performance boat.

The sales figures for the Xp range have reached almost 50 in total which shows an unlimited trust in X-Yachts ability to create unique performance boats, having only seen renderings and technical specifications before signing the sale contract.

In early November the first X-55 sold into Australia arrived in Perth for commissioning. The boat is owned Kim Ramen and Adrian Fini from Fremantle Sailing Club and she will race from the club as well as being used for family cruising. The boat is named Audeamus, it’s Latin for Let Us Dare, an appropriate name for this new yacht partnership.

On this occasion, Rod Tweedle from Sails Magazine (issue 5) wrote:

A spacious cruiser-racer with Danish quality, impressive all-round performance and plenty of wow factor to boot, X-Yachts’ new 55-footer hits the mark for those seeking speed and luxury under sail.

Only once in a while does a yacht as special as the X55 arrive in Australian waters.

On Friday the 15th of October a fleet of 12 X-Yachts raced for the Sydney City Marine X-Yachts Australia Cup on Sydney Harbour.

The conditions weren’t the ones that photographers dream of with clear blue skies and gentle breezes. A brisk 25-30 knot Southerly wind greeted competitors as they approached the start area.

The eagerly anticipated Xp 38 is set to debut late summer 2011.
Following on from the Xp 44, the Xp 38 will encompass the same ground-breaking performance characteristics whilst maintaining the cruising qualities X-Yachts customers have grown to expect.

The new Xp 38 is a resized model of the Xp 44 which is still under development and yet sold in more than 20 copies - 5 months before planned launch.

The Xp range will be built with the use of advanced technology and will undoubtedly be trendsetting in the yachting industry.

The Hanseboot boat show is taking place from 30th October to 7th November.

We will be presenting to you

X-Yacht sailors won many prizes during the Autumn Regatta taking place earlier this month.

In the second race 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th places were won by X-Yachts owners - but, also in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth races, X-Yachts ran off with more than 2/3 of the prizes.

Many different X-Yachts models were involved.

Thomas Kiær and Mads Barner Christensen have told a story about their experiences in an X-50 over a period from July 2009 - March 2010 - crossing the Atlantic Ocean..

They are participating in ARC in the waters around Gran Canaria, sailing in the Caribbean Ocean, fishing king mackarels with a speed of averagely 13 knots, running out of water and surviving on hot canned beers....

They are both dreaming about a journey over the Pacific Ocean...
